James Gunn, the director behind “Guardians of the Galaxy,” has at long last unveiled the backstory of two beloved MCU characters: Groot and Rocket. For nearly a decade, fans have pondered over the enigmatic relationship between these two characters.

Gunn skillfully reveals the cherished cosmic bond between the gruff but endearing Rocket Raccoon and the ever-adorable Groot. The untold tale of these iconic MCU figures has stirred a range of emotions within the fan community.

In “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” Gunn breathes new life into Rocket and his captivating friendship with Groot. This cinematic installment marked Gunn’s farewell to the MCU as he ventured into new creative territories with DC. Within this film, Rocket’s character is given greater depth, delving into unexplored facets of his backstory and childhood connections.

Building upon this momentum, Gunn recently took to the social media platform Threads to unveil the poignant narrative of Rocket and Groot’s first encounter in the Marvel universe. Originally conceived as a short film that didn’t make the final cut, this revelation adds depth to their relationship.

The narrative unfolds in the grim setting of a deep underground well where both Rocket and Groot are held captive. Tibius Lark, a character referenced in the initial “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie, reveals on his deathbed his role as Groot’s guardian, urging Rocket to continue his legacy.

An intriguing aspect of this tale is the method of Rocket and Groot’s escape. Rocket ingeniously repurposes parts of Lark, a robot, into a weapon to facilitate their breakout. This moment showcases Rocket’s exceptional ability to adapt and innovate in the face of adversity.
